Andreas Kiessling

Andreas Kiessling (ESR2) works at the University of Leeds (UK) in the lab of Adrian Goldman. The project involves secondments at the University hospital in Frankfurt (Germany), Lund University (Sweden), and Institut Pasteur in Paris (France).

The aim of the project is to elucidate structure and function of the Burkholderia pseudomallei autotransporter BpaC by means of biochemical, microbiological, and structural approaches like X-Ray Crystallography and Cryo-EM. Understanding the host-pathogen interaction between the gram-negative pathogen Burkholderia pseudomallei and human epithelial cells helps to uncover the influence of autotransporter during bacterial invasion and broadens the knowledge about autotransporter functions in general.
