Dr. Ian Eastwood

Dr. Ian Eastwood is the Technical Director of Eluceda Ltd. The company uses various (mainly electrochemical) techniques to detect very small quantities of materials.

The main research interest is in detecting microorganisms as quickly and as early as possible so that they can be dealt with before they become a problem. In order to do this, we have been developing low-cost sensing platforms and techniques for extracting and identifying DNA. Our work is done in conjunction with the University of York Department of Biosciences – through which we have access to a variety of different pieces of equipment. Our knowledge of these techniques has led to finding opportunities various interesting but unrelated areas such as detection of related molecules for forensic applications.
