Dr. Carina Almeida
Dr. Carina Almeida is a co-founder of Biomode S.A. and an Associate Researcher of the National Institute of Agrarian and Veterinary Research (INIAV). Her main research interests are to explore the potential of nucleic acid mimics for microbiology applications. To better explore the commercial applications of these mimics, C. Almeida, together with two colleagues, founded Biomode, a startup company that has received venture capital funds. Biomode core activities focus on R&D for developing a patent portfolio that will allow the company to commercialize diagnostic kits in health and food security areas.
Biomode has fully equipped facilities for the development of new IVD devices and has a certified ISO 13485 quality management system for the production of medical devices. The company has also all the necessary facilities and conditions to work with pathogenic microorganisms and clinical samples, including Biosafety level 2 facilities.
